Football is back and so is Red and Gold Rundown!! The schedule makers blessed us with a Week 1 matchup against the rebuilding Detroit Lions. A perfect tune up game to begin our Super Bowl Season. Reminds me of when top NCAA football teams would start the year off against some D2 school, like West Florida, and beat up on them 60-0 just to get their confidence up. That’s what I expect here in Week 1, complete and utter dominance from the opening kick.
Offensively the Lions have no fire power from the receiver core and with a banged up De’Andre Swift I see them struggling to do anything against a ferocious 49er defense. I think I speak for all 49er fans as I look forward to continuing to torment Jared Goff wherever he goes throughout his career. Even with an improved offensive line I expect 4+ sacks and at minimum 2 turnovers forced from our defense.
Defensively it doesn’t get much better for Detroit, they have a few young pass rushers but no one that jumps off the page or strikes fear in the offense. I expect a heavy dose of Raheem Mostert and for my DraftKing fans he is my play of the week. Expect big runs early and often from Mostert. Jimmy takes the ball at QB, and I think this is a good confidence boost for him, as he will have some easy throws and won’t be asked to do too much for an easy Week 1 victory. Expect to see some Trey Lance this game, every time he runs on the field the juices get flowing and I catch myself on the edge of my seat. I can’t wait to see him takeover in the huddle full time. Lance may not get a ton of snaps, but he scored in every preseason game, and I expect Shanahan to find a way to get Lance his first NFL touchdown right out the gate. Sunday can’t come soon enough!
